Speed Pitching for PR Pros
Reporters are always looking for new, better, faster sources. PR pros and business owners are forever pitching reporters. The problem is the pitches aren’t always on target, don’t have enough information, or are just directed to the wrong reporter or publication.
Speed Pitching puts everyone in the same room. Everyone leaves better, smarter, faster, stronger. Reporters obtain sources, and PR folks are able to fine-tune their pitches.
How?
The format of the event is similar to the “Speed Dating” concept. In a nutshell, you will have 3 minutes with each reporter attending. You get to deliver your pitch, and then spend a few minutes receiving feedback: good, bad, ugly but most of all – constructive.
After you’ve spent time with each reporter, there will be a good old-fashioned networking opportunity (over there, by the bar).
Registration is limited (we don’t have all night) so sign up now.

So, I was on my way to work the other morning. Usually a calm, 4 block trek, my thoughts usually a variation of “should I use cocoa or pumpkin spice in my coffee today.”
This trek, however, was a little different. I started mentally cataloging the day’s work. Pitches, press releases, databases, networking events.
I wondered if there were a way to combine any of the tasks at hand. And then it came to me: Speed Pitching.
In my past life, I hosted Match dot com Speed Dating events. Men and women in the same room, me with the whistle timing everyone’s 2-3 minute “pitches” to each other.
It was a great job, one I probably need therapy for given how ideally suited I was for it.
So. Speed Pitching. It could not be simpler:
Businesses will be given 3 minutes to pitch reporters. The first minute is their “elevator pitch”. The last two minutes are reporter feedback for the business owner/entrepreneur. Really, anyone with a story to tell, gets to tell it with the added benefit of direct, immediate feedback.
For the reporters, they get story ideas first-hand, first-person. Both sides will have the opportunity to network at the event, and schedule further interviews if they’d like.
The inaugural Speed Pitching event is Wednesday, December 15th, 6pm. Leave a comment with questions, or come stalk us on Twitter:
